No Ritual No Yoga, Just Self-Experience : Vijnâna Bhairava Tantra 2b-15

Pin on Goddess

The Goddess asks whether the Divine is any Form worshipped in the following Tantric Traditions (listen to the video for some details about them) :

kiṃ rūpaṃ tattvato deva śabdarāśikalāmayam || 2 ||
"Is God..."

kiṃ vā navātmabhedena bhairave bhairavākṛtau |
triśirobhedabhinnaṃ vā kiṃ vā śaktitrayātmakam || 3 ||

nādabindumayaṃ vāpi kiṃ candrārdhanirodhikāḥ |
cakrārūḍham anackaṃ vā kiṃ vā śaktisvarūpakam || 4 ||

"...or is it of the essence of Shakti ?"

parāparāyāḥ sakalam aparāyāś ca vā punaḥ |
parāyā yadi tadvat syāt paratvaṃ tad virudhyate || 5 ||

"(For forms) both middling and inferior
do have parts/ do have organs/ various powers.
But the superior one is not (like that).
If the superior one would be like that,
it's superiority would stand contradicted."

na hi varṇavibhedena dehabhedena vā bhavet |
paratvaṃ niṣkalatvena sakalatve na tad bhavet || 6 ||

"For (that superiority) is not possible
with different letters (of a Mantra) of with différents bodies (for visualization).
To be superior, is to be devoid of parts.
And this is not possible when one has parts."

prasādaṃ kuru me nātha niḥśeṣaṃ chinddhi saṃśayam |

"Grace me, O Lord, cut through my doubt !"

The Answer :

bhairava uvāca |

"(God) the Terrible, said :"

sādhu sādhu tvayā pṛṣṭaṃ tantrasāram idam priye || 7 ||
"Good, good, my Dear, your question is about the essence of Tantra."

gūhanīyatamam bhadre tathāpi kathayāmi te |

"It is most secret. Yet, O Dear One, I shall tell it to you (because you are dear to me).

yatkiṃcit sakalaṃ rūpaṃ bhairavasya prakīrtitam || 8 ||
"Whatever form with parts is spoken of as mine...

tad asāratayā devi vijñeyaṃ śakrajālavat |
māyāsvapnopamaṃ caiva gandharvanagarabhramam || 9 ||
"...should be reckoned, O Goddess, as devoid of any substance,

like a magic trick, like a dream,
and just like an imaginary city in the clouds".

dhyānārtham bhrāntabuddhīnāṃ kriyāḍambaravartinām |
kevalaṃ varṇitam puṃsāṃ vikalpanihatātmanām || 10 ||
"Those forms with parts are for the visualisation

of those whose intelligence is deluded,
(for) they are engrossed in
the agitated whirpool of business.
They are described only for those individuals
who are deep down loaded with (vain) choices."

tattvato na navātmāsau śabdarāśir na bhairavaḥ |
na cāsau triśirā devo na ca śaktitrayātmakaḥ || 11 ||
"Really, God is not..."

nādabindumayo vāpi na candrārdhanirodhikāḥ |
na cakrakramasambhinno na ca śaktisvarūpakaḥ || 12 ||
"...of the essence of Shakti."

aprabuddhamatīnāṃ hi etā balavibhīṣikāḥ |
mātṛmodakavat sarvaṃ pravṛttyarthaṃ udāhṛtam || 13 ||
"For those (formsà are for those whose intelligence is not awake :

(for them, those forms are like) tales to frighten children,
like sweets of a mother :
all that is given as a model for business."

dikkālakalanonmuktā deśoddeśāviśeṣinī |
vyapadeṣṭum aśakyāsāv akathyā paramārthataḥ || 14 ||
"(The real Divine) is freed

from the mesures of place and time,
devoid of a special 'here' or 'there'.
It is (thus) not possible to point at her :
really, she cannot be told."

antaḥsvānubhavānandā vikalponmuktagocarā |
yāvasthā bharitākārā bhairavī bhairavātmanaḥ || 15 ||

"(Yet) she is the bliss of self-experience,
(turned) to the inside,
a realm freed from choices/ doubts.
That state, full to the brim,
is the Goddess, the (very) self of God."
