Vijnana Bhairava Tantra 16-21 How To Know the Divine

An important bronze figure of Uma, South India, Chola period, 12th century - Alain.R.Truong

How can I know the Divine in its fullness ?

The Divine is full awareness. That only is the Goddess :

tad vapus tattvato jñeyaṃ vimalaṃ viśvapūraṇam |
evaṃvidhe pare tattve kaḥ pūjyaḥ kaś ca tṛpyati || 16 ||
"That essence (of awareness and bliss) is to be known
as really being (the Divine) : it is (both) pure and (yet) full of all.
In such a suprême state,
who is worshipped ? who is to be satisfied ?"

evaṃvidhā bhairavasya yāvasthā parigīyate |
sā parā pararūpeṇa parā devī prakīrtitā || 17 ||
"That state of the Divine
thus celebrated,
that Suprême one who is suprême,
is renowned as the Suprême Goddess (that is, full awareness)."

śaktiśaktimator yadvad abhedaḥ sarvadā sthitaḥ |
atas taddharmadharmitvāt parā śaktiḥ parātmanaḥ || 18 ||
"The Divine and its Power
alway dwell as one.
Thus, because the One who has Power isnot différent froms his Power,
the Suprême Power is (the Power) of the Supreme Self."

na vahner dāhikā śaktir vyatiriktā vibhāvyate |
kevalaṃ jñānasattāyām prārambho 'yam praveśane || 19 ||
"One doesn't think of fire
as being différent from its power to burn.
That (distinction between a thing and its powers)
is only (a way) a starting point to enter in knowledge."

śaktyavasthāpraviṣṭasya nirvibhāgena bhāvanā |
tadāsau śivarūpī syāt śaivī mukham ihocyate || 20 ||
"Full realisation
of the one who is possessed of that state of Power
is, then, the Divine (himself) :
that Power is called 'the Doorway' (to the Divine), here (in this tradition)."

yathālokena dīpasya kiraṇair bhāskarasya ca |
jñāyate digvibhāgādi tadvac chaktyā śivaḥ priye || 21 ||
"Just like places are known
through the light of a lamp or of the sun,
juste like that is the Divine known (through its Power),
o my Dear one !"
